McArdles Butchers of Chirk has re-opened following their shop refurbishment and the customers were queuing out of the door to take a look at the results of the butchers shop renovation. Mark and Steve McArdle were thrilled with their new shop and the feedback from customers on the grand re-opening was that of sincere approval and admiration.

Project Overview

The project involved a brand new design including layout, finishes and re-branding. The works included an entire floor to ceiling internal refit throughout the servery and customer area, replacement of a main window and refurbishment of the shop awnings.

Design

The new style was designed to give a fresh, modern and appealing atmosphere to customers old and new. The theme was kept simple with a white, back and grey style incorporating subtle detail to create a high-end yet comfortable ambience for customers of all ages. The layout of the shop maximised revenue potential by having one long sweeping run of temperature controlled counters that incorporated display for a wide varierty of products including; meat retail display, open front self-service packaged products, cold cooked meat, cold pies, pastries and cakes, fresh sandwich bar and a hot counter for fresh pastries and hot sandwiches. The sleek style was further amplified by HK Interiors suggesting and designing a re-branding of the shop awnings and this new branding was carried through to the internal of the shop on the point of sale blackboards. The combination of new branding, layout and style of the shop created a fresh, stylish butchers shop that is appealing to the entire spectrum of consumers.

Transformation

The entire shop was stripped out by the HK Interiors site team who then meticulously transformed the space. A simple white metro tile was selected for the walls allowing for a black metro tile mid border and end wall for visual effect. A section of back wall was tiled in grey slate-effect tiles to create a feature to the centre of the servery and to emphasise product retail.

To the customer floor area we installed modern wood plank effect porcelain tiles to give a finish that looks supremely stylish but is easy to clean and maintain. The servery floor was tiled with R10 anti-slip porcelain tiles to give continuity of style, ease of maintenance and to reduce the risk of slippage.

A new ceiling was installed throughout the shop using hygienic ceiling planks with a silver feature strip and recessed LED lighting. Bespoke joinery units were hand-made by our UK manufacturing facility and fitted with solid surface tops incorporating inset wash basin and waste chute, cupboards, shelving, product retail display units, blackboards for point of sale, cladding and cappings to feature columns and beams.

A straight glass counter was installed to the length of the shop incorporating different temperature functions for product variation and refrigerated window displays were fitted for additional product display and customer attraction.

Timescale

The entire shop refit was completed in just 12 days and during this time McArdles was only closed for one Saturday (understandably the busiest revenue day of the week for butchers shops).

The project commenced at 4.00pm on Saturday 16th January 2016 (a time agreed with the customer for convenience) and was completed on Thursday 28th January 2016. Despite the addition of the full ceiling refurbishment (which was not in the original scope of works) the project was still completed within a timescale that minimised revenue loss from shop closure thanks to the tireless efforts of our dedicated site team.
